FAQ for Dance & Fitness Service Providers

Dance Nut IntroTM Program

How does this program bring us new students?

By giving Boston area dance and fitness students vouchers to take free introductory classes with you.

Dance Nut IntroTM classes give students an easy, no-risk way to try a few class options at locations and times that work for them, while giving service providers a chance to win over prospective students who might otherwise never try out their classes.

Dance Nut partners with local studios and teachers to offer a variety of free intro classes through us. We constantly attract new local dance and fitness students to our web site, put vouchers in their hands, and send them off to you!

How does this program make money for us?

The Dance Nut IntroTM Program is an investment in growing your business. We bring you new students, and some of them become good repeat customers for you.

For example, let’s say that one good repeat student typically brings you $500/year in net profit (after you pay teacher salaries, etc.). If you give us $200 to bring you new students, and just one of them becomes a good repeat customer, then you come out $300 ahead for the first year, and you keep earning the full $500 each additional year. If you get two good repeat customers, then you come out $800 ahead for the first year, etc.

Every marketing program requires an investment. What matters most is the return you receive on that investment (ROI). We believe that the ROI from our New Student program will be significantly better than the ROI of other programs. See our Marketing Program Comparison Chart to learn why.

How can we afford to pay money to offer free classes?

A common response when first hearing about this program is, "We pay you to bring us students, and then we give each of those students a free class? We can't afford that!"

If the students never returned, you would be right. But the purpose of our Dance Nut IntroTM Program is to bring you students who become good repeat customers at a high enough rate to be clearly profitable for you, and we are confident that we can do so.

Your #1 goal as a business owner is not to minimize costs. It's to maximize profits. And to maximize profits as a dance or fitness service provider means continually getting more good repeat customers. Any marketing program you use for this purpose will cost money. But ours will give you better results for lower cost. See our Marketing Program Comparison Chart to learn why.

Also see the FAQ, "How does this program make money for us?" for more information.

Who are these students and how do you know they will buy our classes?

From surveying our student members we know:

  • They are looking for great new dance or fitness classes to take on a regular basis.
  • Their interests span ballroom & latin dance, performance dance, fitness and more.
  • They are interested in both group classes and private lessons.
  • Some are interested in classes for their kids.
  • They want to try an average of 3-4 classes before choosing one to continue with.

These are well-qualified, eager students -- Your target customers!

However, please understand that many of them will not buy classes from you! This is a normal part of the process of finding the students who will buy your classes. We've seen purchase rates of ~20% after these students try a free intro class, which is more than enough to make this program very profitable for you. Please see the FAQ: "How does this program make money for us?".

Do students have an incentive to buy our classes?

Yes! Students know that they can receive a $10 "Dance Nut Discount" towards the purchase of $50 or more worth of classes from you after they take the free intro class. This discount is in addition to any other discounts you would normally offer and is valid for 30 days after they take the intro class.

This gives students time to try a few classes at convenient locations and times for them, and then return to the one they liked most to receive a discount for continuing. And remember that these are people who want to find a new dance or fitness class, so they already have a great incentive to buy!

Are there that many new students out there?

You bet! Every month there are about 8,000 Google searches for "Boston dance classes" alone. Add in related dance searches, searches for fitness classes, and searches for surrounding areas, and you have many thousands of people each month looking for dance and fitness classes throughout the Greater Boston area. People don't search for classes if they already know where they want to go!

How many new students will we get?

The number of new students you receive will vary based on the number of free intro classes you offer, the types of classes, your location, your hours, etc. We can't promise a specific number of students within a certain time frame.

However, we do promise to deliver to you a specific number of students. If you buy a package of 100 vouchers, then we will eventually bring 100 new students through your door.

Why is this program better than other marketing programs?

Our program:

  • Targets your ideal customers - Boston area dance and fitness students.
  • Guarantees to bring you a certain number of new students.
  • Actively brings these students directly into your classes.
  • Gives students an incentive to buy more classes from you.
  • Gives you measurable results so you can see your Return on Investment (ROI).

See our full Marketing Program Comparison Chart.

The most important element, of course, is the Return on Investment (ROI). We are confident that we'll deliver to you greater profits for less cost than any other program. Try it out and see for yourself!

Would we be a good fit for this program?

Your dance or fitness service would likely be a good fit for this program if:

  • You want new students for some or all of your classes
  • Your current marketing programs are not bringing enough new students in the door
  • You can afford a small up-front investment in order to grow your business

If you think your service might be a good fit for this program, please contact us.

You may also want to consider our separate Dance Nut DealTM Program. Compare plans.

How will we measure the effectiveness of this program?

Results with our Dance Nut IntroTM Program are 100% trackable and measurable.

You will be able to easily see:

  • The amount you spend on vouchers to bring in new students
  • The number of students who redeem your vouchers (take a class with you)
  • The number of students who buy more classes from you

With this information, plus an estimate for how much a new repeat student is worth to you over the course of a year, your Return on Investment (ROI) is easy to calculate. We'll even do that for you, sending you periodic ROI updates!

What happens if a student claims a voucher but never shows up?

If a student claims a voucher for your class but fails to redeem it before it expires (in 30 days), then the voucher will be returned to your account so that another student may use it.

Getting these new students to show up for your classes is our job, not yours. If you buy a package of 100 vouchers, we will deliver 100 new students to you. It's that simple.

How does this program work from the students' point of view?

Please see our FAQ for dancers.

What are the program requirements for us?

Your part in this is simple:

  • Use our web site to buy packages of vouchers and allocate them to your classes.
  • Honor all valid vouchers that students present to you.
  • Offer a $10 "Dance Nut Discount" towards each student's first purchase of $50 or more worth of classes (in addition to any other discounts you normally offer).
  • Update Dance Nut regularly about voucher usage.

This last item is optional for you but allows us to provide you with two additional benefits:

  • We can credit vouchers back to your account when students don't show up.
  • We can provide you with a more accurate Return on Investment (ROI) analysis.

We will provide you with a simple means (such as a pre-filled spreadsheet or a web site form) for updating us about voucher usage.

How much does it cost to join the program?

There is no fee to join. You simply purchase a package of vouchers to allocate to your classes.

If you are interested in the program and would like to see the available packages, please contact us. We will enable your Dance Nut account for the program, and you will then be able to view pricing information and additional member-only FAQs.

How do we join and start getting new students?

It's easy:

  1. Create a free Dance Nut professional or business account (if you haven’t already).
  2. Contact us to enable your account for the New Student Program.
  3. Purchase a voucher package from your profile page.
  4. Allocate your vouchers to the classes on your profile page that you wish to promote.

Dance Nut DealTM Program

How does this program bring us new customers?

By selling discounted deals for your services or products to Boston area dance and fitness fans.

We help you offer a manageable number of sensible discounts that attract your target customers.

You want to get a small number of ideal customers, not a large number of rabid bargain-hunters. We give you broad flexibility in setting the parameters for your deal and help you make good choices. Our priority is to help you succeed. If a deal doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for us!

How does this program make money for us?

With Dance Nut DealsTM you make money in two ways.

  1. You make money each time we sell one of your deals.
  2. You make money when a new customer gets hooked and purchases more from you.

#1 is a short-term benefit and can be helpful for cash flow. We work with you to set pricing that avoids bargain hunters and makes financial sense for you.

#2 is the more significant long-term benefit. Getting good new customers is what this program is really about. And we allow you to specify that a deal is only good for new customers.

And we also make sure that you don't run into trouble from too much interest. You can place a cap on the number of deals we're allowed to sell for you.

From start to finish, Dance Nut Deals were designed with your success in mind.

What exactly will you do for us when we offer a deal?

When you run a Dance Nut DealTM, we will do the following for you.

  • Create the deal copy and get your approval
  • Promote the deals directly to Boston area dance and fitness fans
  • Process all transactions
  • Send you a check for your portion of the deal revenue
  • Send you the name and email of everyone who buys your deal
  • Put a voucher in each new customer's hands and send them off to you!

How much of a discount do we need to offer?

The extent of the discount is up to you. We recommend setting a price that offers an enticing, but not extreme, discount. A good discount range is 30% to 50%.

Offering deeper discounts risks three big problems.

  1. You may lose money in the short term on the deal itself. This may be compensated by long-term gains from new customers, but it's rarely necessary to start out in the red.
  2. Some people won't even bother redeeming a really cheap deal. While this may provide a little bit of free money for you, remember that your main goal is to bring in good new customers.
  3. You may attract rabid bargain-hunters who are unlikely to buy anything more from you. You want new customers who are serious about dance and fitness and are willing to spend money when they find the right service or product.

When other deal sites mandate extreme discounts, they are doing it for their own benefit, not yours. They are going for volume and want everyone with a heartbeat to buy your deals. We are going for quality and want only serious new customers to buy your deals.

How much control do we have in specifying the deal terms?

You have very broad control.

Within reasonable limits you have complete flexibility to set:

  • The details of the service or product being offered
  • The deal price
  • The maximum number of deals to sell
  • The dates during which we will sell the deal
  • The dates during which the deal is valid to redeem
  • Additional fine print

We'll offer helpful suggestions for optimizing your deal to fit your goals. Our priority is to help you succeed. If a deal doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for us!

How many new customers will we get?

The number of new customers you receive will vary based on the number of deals you offer, the type of deal, your location, time of year, etc. Because of these variables, we can't predict how many customers will respond to a given deal.

However, we do guarantee to not sell more deals than you specify. Every business has its limit, and we work to ensure that you never get overwhelmed.

Why is this program better than other marketing programs?

Our program:

  • Targets your ideal customers - Boston area dance and fitness fans.
  • Lets you set a price that makes financial sense for you and avoids bargain-hunters.
  • Lets you offer quantities of deals that you can manage comfortably.
  • Gives you the names and email addresses of deal purchasers for your own follow-ups.
  • Gives you measurable results so you can see your Return on Investment (ROI).

See our full Marketing Program Comparison Chart.

Would we be a good fit for this program?

Your dance or fitness business would likely be a good fit for this program if:

  • You want new customers for your services or products
  • Your current marketing programs are not bringing enough new customers in the door
  • You would prefer to not invest any money up front

If you think your service might be a good fit for this program, please contact us.

You may also want to consider our separate Dance Nut IntroTM Program. Compare plans.

How will we measure the effectiveness of this program?

Results with our Dance Nut DealTM program are 100% trackable and measurable.

You will be able to easily see:

  • The number of customers who buy your deals
  • The number of customers who redeem the deals
  • The number of customers who buy more services or products from you

With this information, plus an estimate for how much a new repeat customer is worth to you over the course of a year, your Return on Investment (ROI) is easy to calculate. We'll even do that for you, sending you periodic ROI updates!

What happens if a customer's voucher expires before he redeems it?

If a customer buys a deal but fails to redeem it before it expires, then two things happen.

  1. You still keep your portion of the proceeds from the sale of the deal.
  2. The customer loses the promotional value of the voucher. The amount he spent will still be valid to redeem with you and never expires.

What are the program requirements for us?

Your part in this is simple:

  1. Give us the necessary information to set up your deal.
  2. Review and approve the deal before we begin running it.
  3. Honor all valid deals that customers present to you.
  4. Update Dance Nut regularly about deal usage.

We will provide you with a simple means (such as a pre-filled spreadsheet or a web site form) for updating us about deal usage.

How much does it cost to offer these deals?

To offer Dance Nut DealsTM you pay nothing to Dance Nut at any point.

At the end of the deal promotion period we will send you a check for your portion of the proceeds.

How do we start offering these deals?

Please contact us. We will follow up quickly and get you on your way to bringing in new customers!

How do I choose the right membership type?

There are three membership types:

  1. Professional Individual
  2. Professional Group
  3. Business

In most cases the right membership type to choose will be obvious. Simply start here.

For detailed definitions of these membership types, click here.

If you are still unsure, here are a few other points to consider.

  • Where do you reside?
Professionals can provide services at various locations, while a Business is generally fixed at one or a small number of locations.
  • How do you want to be found?
Dancers can search for specific membership types, so you will want to choose the type that will place you in the expected set of search results. For example, if you are an independent dance teacher but you create a Business membership, then your profile will not display when a dancer searches for teachers.
  • How do you want to be known?
If you often teach with a partner, then you can have a Group membership together, or you can have two Individual memberships, or you can have all three. If you want to be known as a teaching couple, then a group membership might make the most sense. If one of you also teaches on your own, you might want to create a separate individual profile, which you can link to your group profile (see "associations" below).
  • Do you have associations that you would want to highlight?
Profiles will display links to other related profiles. This allows dancers to get a better sense of who you are by seeing which other Professionals or Businesses you are associated with. A Group can link to multiple Individuals. A Business can link to both Groups and Individuals.

Can I have more than one membership / profile?

Yes!

You may want to do this if, for example, you own a dance studio and are also a dance teacher. You might then want to have both a Business profile and a Professional Individual profile. Or, if you are the leader of a dance group and also a performer, you might want to have both a Professional Group profile and a Professional Individual profile. Many other cases might also apply

Note that each membership will require a unique username and a unique email address.

Should I join Dance Nut if I already have my own dance web site?

Managing Your Account

How do I make my profile visible on the site?

Once you are happy with how your profile looks, click Edit Profile and set "Profile Visibility" to "Visible". Your profile will now be visible throughout the site, able to appear in search results and on dance pages.

How do I log in?

To log in, please click the "Login / Logout" link at the top-right of any web page. Then enter your username and password. A copy of these was emailed to you when you registered (you may need to check your spam folder).

NOTE: Your username (not visible on the site) is different from your Profile Name (visible to everyone on the site). Your Profile Name will NOT work for logging in.

If you forgot your password or username, please click the appropriate link on the Login / Logout page.

What are "Top" Dance Professionals and Businesses?

On every dance page you will see the Top 3 Dance Professionals and Top 3 Dance Businesses for that dance (or dance category). These are the professionals and businesses who currently provide the most helpful information to the Boston area dance community.

Factors that determine "Top" dance service providers include:
  • The number of classes and events posted for that particular dance (or dance category)
  • Whether there is a profile photo
  • The number of classes and events that have photos
  • The number of links to "Related Profiles"
  • How well profile and event information is kept up to date

Each of these items is very useful to dancers seeking good information, and we want to highlight dance service providers who take the time to provide as much helpful information as they can.

You can see examples of Top listings on any dance page, such as the Swing page.

These factors also determine the default ranking on the main Dance Professionals and Businesses search page.

How do I access my account features?

After you log in you will automatically be brought to your Profile page. You can also return to this page at any time by clicking the "My Profile" link that displays at the top-right of every site page while you are logged in.

At the top of your profile page is a list of all of the actions you can perform for your account type.

If you need help at any time, please contact us.

What are the requirements on posted content?

The content of all member profiles and event listings must adhere to the following requirements in order to protect and be fair to all site visitors.

  • Photos must be appropriate for all viewers (PG-rated)
  • Text must describe only a member's own dance services and related information
  • Text must not contain any foul, vulgar, or offensive language
  • Text must not contain any URLs, HTML, javascript, php, or other code

If you see content on Dance Nut that does not meet these requirements, please report it.

How do I include my pricing and discounts?

When you create an event you will see two required fields for regular pricing plus two optional fields for discount pricing.

Summary:

  • Regular Prices are on-going pricing and package deals that are always available.
  • Discount Prices are special offers that are not always available.

Further Details:

  • Regular Price (detailed)
This will display on the event details page. You may include as much detail as desired to fully describe your regular pricing.
    Example: "$10 for adults. $8 for seniors. $6 after 11pm. $20 for a 3-day pass."
  • Regular Price (base)
This will display only on the search result listing. It should be the single number (no "$" sign or letters) that best represents your regular pricing for the event.
    Example: "10"
  • Discount Price (detailed)
This will display on the event details page. It will also print when a dancer clicks the "Discount" button on the event details page. You may include as much detail as desired to fully describe your discount pricing.
Example: "$7 for first-timers. $30 for package of 5 lessons."
  • Discount Price (base)
This will display only on the search result listing. It should be the single number (no "$" sign or letters) that best represents your discount pricing for the event.
    Example: "7"

Both regular pricing fields are required. If the class or event is free, you may simply say so in the detailed field and enter "0" in the base field.

The discount fields are optional but highly encouraged. Discounts encourage people to try new things and to keep coming back. Everyone loves to get a good deal! Dance Nut makes it easy by allowing dancers to print discounts directly from the event details page.

How do I create links to Related Profiles?

Profiles will display links to other related profiles. This allows dancers to get a better sense of who you are by seeing which other Professionals or Businesses you are associated with.

A Group can link to multiple Individuals. A Business can link to both Groups and Individuals. All of these links will show up on your profile in the "Related Profiles" section.

If you are a Group or Business and wish to link to another Group or Individual that is part of your Group or Business, simply visit their profile and click "Add this member to my group" in the "Related Profiles" section. If you need to later remove them, visit their profile again and click "Remove this member from my group."

If a Group or Business created a link to you and you wish to remove the association, please contact them with your request. If you are having difficulty, please Contact Us.

How do I get my profile/event to display in the "Children's Dance" category?

To display on the "Children's Dance" main page or in search results when "Children's Dance" is selected as a category filter, simply select "Children's Dance" in the dance list when editing your profile or event.

Please note that simply setting an age range for your event that includes those under 18 will NOT cause the event to show up under "Children's Dance". You must select "Children's Dance" as specified above.

If you are having difficulty, please Contact Us.
